Facemoney ... How is the "Air Up There"?

The Innovative & Creative Blog did a Q&A with Facemoney. He is an up and coming phenomenal lyricist from Brooklyn, NY with Grammy aspirations and enough ambition to acquire it. You can check out the interview as well as preview some of his music and videos below:

Q: Who are your influences? When you were coming up which artists did you listen to?
A. The major influences for my music journey were Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Nas, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Dr. Dre. Growing Up I was a huge fan of early West Coast Hip Hop, I was alwys listening to Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. I also listened to alot of Mobb Deep, Jay Z, Wu Tang, and Biggie.

Q: If you could compare yourself to an even more established artist than yourself, who would that be and why? Who is your hip hop hero?
A. I never really made a comparison of myself with any artist, I feel I am an artist and my art defines me and no one else as with any other artist. I have heard comparisons though with Jay Z, The Game, and Nas. My Hip Hop Hero hands down has to be Tupac Shakur.

Q: What do you think your listeners will get out of your music?
A. When people listen to my music, I would want them to relate and feel as if it is was created by themselves. Something to feel good too, receive a positive message that they would be able to implement in their everyday
life. I would want my music to stimulate the mind and soul. Something you could ride to, party to, and listen to when you need a sweet escape.

Q: What were you thinking about when your single was developed?
A. When I developed my first single which was "All White Acura" in December 2009, I got the concept from my fathers 1989 All White Acura Legend which was a car I grew up in and used to turn heads when he came on the block. I wanted the song to describe a cool chill mood, to capture the same emotion I felt when I was 4 riding around with my pops in that car.

Q: What made you want to get into the business?
A. Originally I was a DJ. I started writing when I was 11 when I saw Lil Bow Wow's "bounce with me". I had a little keyboard with old school 80's beat computer loops and I used to borrow my grandfathers cassette player and record songs every day. I fell in love with creating music and transferring thoughts and emotions into songs. I eventually felt I would want my work to have a lasting impact on the business.

Q: What is the most difficult thing you had to endure in life?
A. When I was 16 years old I was arrested and went to Rikers Island C 74 for adolescents, it was very depressing and I felt I had failed. When I came home and the smoke cleared, I beat the case and vowed I would never go back. I used the experience as fuel to bring out the hustler and go getter mentality within. I overcame that obstacle and turned it into many positives within the years that passed after that situation.

Q: What is the most difficult thing you have endured in the music industry?
A. Dealing with negative people around me, the hate, the jealousy and envy. As well selfish individuals, doubters.... yeah that's all

Q: How did you come up with and what is the significance of your name?
A. I was about 13 years old and I got the name face as a nick name when I used to play basketball. Eventually I added on "money" because on my block my homies used to call me money.

Q: What do you hope to do with your music?
A. I hope, but I believe and know I will get a Grammy. Impact the world and be remembered in the game for many accomplishments and stripes I will earn through hard work, determination, and consistency

Q: How do you plan to help change the world with your music?
A. Well, I have many experiences that I share through my music that many people of all walks of life, different race, gender etc will all be able to relate. Once everyone is able to relate and feel your music then you will be
able to have a great impact universally.

Q: What is your 'vision' for your single?  What message are you trying to send?
A. I recently released "AIR UP THERE"  EP which features my first single and music video "Ain't Hearing That" . The single depicts the vision of blocking out all negativity, all those who try to hold you back, and all who secretly envy you. Simply, they talk and never show it, so "I ain't hearing that" , claim to be making moves and again I'm not hearing that, then they doubt me and say I'm not going anywhere again, I'm not hearing that.

Q: How would you describe your “roots” (where you came from) and where do you intend to go?
A. I'm From Brooklyn, NewYork City, born and raised in Brownsville/ East Flatbush (90's) and it is tough, murders, robberies, and many difficult obstacles and temptations to overcome growing up as a young individual. I use my roots here to show me that there has to be somewhere better and I will try my best to get out of these ends to better myself and explore the world to see how other people are living, to get the things I was never accustomed to and for new experiences while achieving all goals.

Q: Do you feel you are working toward, on the brink of, or have attained your break?
A. Everyday I am working towards my goals, never a break though ... lol. I will continue to work harder and harder until I'm laid to rest. I know I'll get there I'm that confident.

Q: Are there any questions you were expecting that I didn't ask and you care to answer?
