Shawn Childs Has More Than A Little Bit of "Hustle" to Make it to the Top

The I&C Blog Interviewed Compton native Shawn Childs about his street single "Hustle" and his ideas on his place in Hip-Hop. The artist just finished putting together a soundtrack for a nationally published book called "Deadly Decisions" by author MiMi Renee. Q: Who are your influences? When you were coming up which artists did you listen to?
A: I Listened To Everybody Literally I Love Music!

Q: If you could compare yourself to an even more established artist than yourself, who would that be and why?
A: I Know It Might Sound Cliche But I Couldn't Compare Myself To Anyone Because My Sound Is Shawn Childs. I Have Many Influences But My Own Sound.

Q: Who is your hip hop hero?
A: Hip Hop Hero Would Have To Be Eazy E & Jay Z

Q: What do you think your listeners will get out of your music?
A: Motivation & Love

Q: What were you thinking about when your single was developed?
A: The State Of Our Country & Where American Culture Is At In 2011. Everybody Wants Hand Outs & Nobody Wants To Earn Their Respect Or Money.


Q: What made you want to get into the business?
A: I Love Music!

Q: What is the most difficult thing you had to endure in life?
A: Being Flat Broke Trying To Pursue A Career In Music

Q: What is the most difficult thing you have endured in the music industry?
A: Politics.

Q: Do you feel you are working toward, on the brink of, or have attained your break?
A: I'm Definitely Working Toward A "Break" I'm At The Weird Space Where Fans Want To Be Friends & Friends Don't Want To Be Fans

Q: What do you hope to do with your music?
A: I Want My Music To Be Heard Around The World. Whatever Steps I Have To Take To Get To That Point With My Music I'm Willing.



 
Q: How does he plan to help change the world with your music?
A: The Basis Of All Of My Music Is Motivation & Love. I Feel Like Those Two Components Can Change The World.

Q: What is your 'vision' is for your single?  What message are you trying to send?
A: The Message I'm Sending Is You Can Achieve Anything With Hustle. You Can Be The Most Talented Person In The World But Without Hustle The World Will Never See Your Talent.

Q: How would you describe your “roots” (where you came from) and where do you intend to go?
A: I'm From Compton, California & I Was Fortunate To Have My Father & Mother Raise Me. This Taught Me Even In Bad Conditions If You Stay Positive & Do Whats Right You Control Your Own Destiny. That's Where I'm Headed Controlling Destiny.

Q: Do you feel you are working toward, on the brink of, or have attained your break?
A: I'm Definitely Working Toward Getting More People To Hear My Music. I Feel The "Break" Comes When Enough People Hear Your Music. Not A Machine Forcing Your Product Down The Consumers Ears.

Q: Are there any questions you were expecting that I didn't ask and want to answer?
A: Nope You Did A Great Job! lol
